Ben Frost is among six exceptional young talents who have been chosen by some of the world’s most distinguished artists for a year of collaboration and inspiration in the international Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, it was announced today.

	Frost, 30, an acclaimed composer, producer and musician originally from Melbourne, who has lived and worked in Iceland since 2005, is the music protégé for 2010-2011. He will be mentored by Brian Eno from the U.K. who made his name with Roxy Music in the 1970s and has become a visionary composer and producer, working with many leading artists.

	The Arts Initiative has six disciplines: dance, film, literature, music, theatre and visual arts. With four of the total 29 protégés over the five cycles of the Arts Initiative, this marks the first time an artist from Iceland has participated in this international programme.

	The protégés will each have their own individually tailored programme, providing time across the year for unique personal access to and creative dialogue with their mentor. In addition, the protégés will receive a grant of US$25,000 each and are eligible for a further $25,000 towards the cost of creating a project following their mentoring year.

	The other protégés and mentors for 2010-2011 are:
	Dance: Australian dancer Lee Serle, selected by mentor Trisha Brown (United States)
	Literature: American poet Tracy K. Smith, selected by mentor Hans Magnus Enzensberger (Germany);
	Visual arts: South African artist Nicholas Hlobo, who will be mentored by Anish Kapoor (United Kingdom);
	Theatre: Lebanese actor, writer and aspiring director Maya Zbib, whose mentor is Peter Sellars (United States);
	Film: Annemarie Jacir, a Palestinian film director and poet living in Jordan, who will be mentored by Zhang Yimou (China).

	The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative was founded in 2002. The programme is organized by a specialist team based at Rolex headquarters in Geneva. Through an Advisory Board, which recommends the mentors, and expert nominating panels, six talented, young artists around the world are sought to work alongside six major artists in the fields of dance, film, literature, music, theatre and visual arts for a year of intense collaboration. Artists who have been mentors on the programme are: John Baldessari, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Sir Colin Davis, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, William Forsythe, Stephen Frears, Sir Peter Hall, David Hockney, Rebecca Horn, Jiří Kylián, Toni Morrison, Mira Nair, Youssou N’Dour, Jessye Norman, Martin Scorsese, Álvaro Siza, Wole Soyinka, Julie Taymor, Saburo Teshigawara, Mario Vargas Llosa, Kate Valk, Robert Wilson and Pinchas Zukerman.

A buzz of anticipation surrounded the studio as press, police and musicians waited for the arrival of a head of state. Greenhouse studio, which is the home of Bedroom Community record label, had a visit last week from Estonia's President Toomas Hendrik Ilves. The President, a fan of Bedroom Community, was on a state visit to Iceland and wanted to experience some of the vibrant music scene for himself. A concert for the President and 25 of his delegates was put on by Ben Frost and Daníel Bjarnason, accompanied by Borgar Þór Magnason (Contrabass) and Bryndís Halla Gylfadóttir (Cello) playing tracks from Ben's album By The Throat and Daniel's album Processions.

We have just received a fresh new stock of Ben Frost's Theory of Machines on CD in a gorgeous digisleeve package. All backorders should reach buyers very soon (volcanic ash permitting). We do apologise to those who have been waiting for their order for a while now.

	We'd also like to use this opportunity to inform you that Ben's latest album By The Throat is not yet available on vinyl. We have received countless requests for the vinyl edition and we are doing our best to make that happen. But truth be told we do not know when, as there have been severe design and manufacturing complications. We are doing what we can and will inform our mailing list as soon as we can. Sign up for the mailing list and you will be the first to know.

WWT: Volcano Disruption!

Dear all.

	As you know, there is a severe volcanic eruption in Iceland, my homeland and the home of the Bedroom Community label. The eruption is sending a volcanic ash cloud drifting across the skies of Europe and this is upsetting air-travellers' plans literally everywhere. Before I get to the point of this message I want to pause for a second and remind us all that things could be worse. The devastating effects of some previous eruptions and more recent natural disasters have not hit, and hopefully will not. Hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes as water carried pieces of ice the size of small houses down the mountain, but people are safe.

	For months we at Bedroom Community have been looking forward to our big adventure; The Whale Watching Tour which is due to kick off in Berlin tomorrow, Sunday 18th April. Countless hours of hard work have been put into making this ambitious tour a reality, by many many people. The touring party consists 14 people, musicians, crew, drivers, most of whom are travelling from Reykjavík and New York. According to plans were all supposed to have arrived in Berlin already by the time you will be reading this.

	Ever since news about the eruption came we have all been working very hard towards not letting the volcano upset our plans. Yesterday it was looking very likely that this could work out and the tour kick off as planned. Then we started getting news about cancelled flights, airport closures, waiting lists, trouble. There is no easy way to sum up the twist this has put on our plans, every hour there has been a change, a new turn of events, an ash-cloud disrupting somewhere.

	Nobody takes it lightly that a few moments ago we had to make a call on cancelling the first two shows of the tour: Berlin on Sunday the 18th, and Gent on the 19th. It is clear that we can not even get a fraction of the touring party to these places in time.

	The Berlin show is now rescheduled to Sunday August 15th. All tickets are valid for the new date. Contact the Admiralpalast box office for further details. We are working with the promoters on rescheduling any missed shows for later, more on that as the news unfold.

	We've now had to cancel London and Dublin. See below for new dates:

	Thank you all for your understanding.

	Valgeir Sigurðsson,
	on behalf of everyone at Bedroom Community.

	RESCHEDULE UPDATE;

	Berlin is rescheduled to August 15th

	Gent is rescheduled to May 10th.

	London, Barbican is rescheduled to September 27th.

	Dublin is canceled, but will be rescheduled. More news on that very soon.

	See the events page for details on all shows.
