aYia
aYia are a three-piece electronic act hailing from Reykjavík comprised of Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir, Kári Einarsson and Kristinn Roach. Their debut single Water Plant was the second release on Bedroom Community's HVALREKI series, in October 2016. The single received critical acclaim, and featured as KEXP's 'Song of the Day'. The Reykjavík Grapevine also named aYia as their 'Band To Watch 2017' at their annual music awards. aYia's second single Ruins was released in February 2017, coinciding with their highly-praised performance at the Sónar Reykjavík festival.
In 2018, they released their debut album aYia, preceded by the videos and the singles of Sparkle (2018) and Slow (2018). Explaining the album, the band say “it is a gathering of different aspects, mostly connected to the extremes of existing. It rattles the idea of fragility, changing the interior of the surroundings...it is a concrete formalization of a poetic gesture, genetically enhanced to become something unfamiliar.”
